Meet Thomas

Our precious son Thomas was born in Barnet in 2004 and from a young age, showed a real curiosity in the world around him. From an early fascination with his namesake Thomas the Tank Engine and medieval knights, he soon discovered the worlds of superheroes, football and Lego, assembling an impressive array of collectibles, football shirts and increasingly sophisticated Lego sets.

Thomas travelled widely with his parents visiting twenty-five different countries including Iceland, Hungary, Austria, Estonia and the USA. He attended football matches at home and abroad including a cup final in the Netherlands as well as seeing his hero Leo Messi score twice for Barcelona at the Nou Camp. The Olympics in London 2012 and Paris 2024 were among the many other sporting events he saw in person with family and friends.

Another passion was art and Thomas’ home is full of his own wonderful designs. His GCSE Art projects included fantastic homages to David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein. After leaving his local secondary school, Thomas attended Barnet and Southgate College where he left his mark, excelling in the courses he undertook. He left a huge impression on students and staff alike from nursery and primary school through to college.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a serious muscle wasting condition for which there is presently no cure but this never, ever defined Thomas. Thomas was able to access a new treatment which became available in the United Kingdom and in 2017 travelled to America to attend a meeting of the FDA, where he spoke eloquently about the importance of the new drug and why it should be made available in the USA.

Thomas left a lasting impact on so many people and the Foundation which we have established in his name, will ensure that he continues to shape a society in which he played such a huge part.
